Name
Stokes Mk-1 was named after the Irish scientist George Gabriel Stokes who was responsible, along with Claude-Louis Navier, for the Navier-Stokes equations, which govern fluid flow. Born in Sligo…………
Goal
The goal for Stokes was to break the record for the fastest and fighest rocket ever flown by a student team on the Island of Ireland. Targeting 2.4km in altitude and Mach 1.1, Stokes would hav
Structure
Stokes was EirSpace’s first fibreglass airframe. Featuring 3 surface mounted fins, stokes was a minimum-diameter rocket at 54mm meaning that the motor diameter would be the same as the inner diameter of the rocket. The fins were attached using filleting epoxy.
flight
Stokes Mk-1 flew under an I-350 motor to a simulated 2.4km, thou due to high winds and an issue with the GNSS antenna integration, the rocket was not recovered. As the flight computer was not transmitting live telemetory the data for the flight was lost with the rocket and thus the record is unconfirmed. We hope to continue the line of Stokes Vehicles in the future.
